Loofy's - Dorien Beijk

Loofy's - Loofys first took shape in a cosy student room in the centre of Leeuwarden.
In 2016, during a minor in Asia, Dorien Beijk (the creator of Loofys) decided she wanted to do “something” about daily plastic waste. By chance, the focus shifted to personal care products.

Back in the Netherlands, while working on her thesis, she came up with Loofys and took her first steps as an entrepreneur. For a 100% plastic-free bathroom

Plastic is almost impossible to imagine our bathrooms without. We use it every day: bottles in the shower, jars by the sink and tubes in the cupboard. These plastic containers, which mostly contain water but also microplastics, are completely unnecessary. At Loofys, they believe that you and your bathroom can do without plastics. Their mission and goal is: for a 100% plastic-free bathroom.

The Bamboovement - Joshua van den Hurk

The Bamboovement - Like many of his generation, he felt like a citizen of the world from a young age. And so, in 2014, Joshua van den Hurk decided to travel the world for a year. Our seas and oceans attracted him, which is why you would mainly find him on the coast. Preferably on a surfboard or with a diving tank on his back.
During a trip to Indonesia, he met Simon, an Indonesian man who built his own restaurant out of bamboo after learning how strong, versatile and sustainable bamboo is. A few years later, Simon and Joshua started working together. In his workshop, he produced bamboo straws. After they had devised a plan to replace plastic straws, The Bamboovement was born. The Bamboovement now makes many products from bamboo.

Green-Side - Léon Polman

Green-side - In mid-2018, Léon Polman finished his studies and decided to have a good clear-out of his cupboard and desk. After an hour of thorough tidying, there was a huge pile of paper on the kitchen table. A collection of scientific articles, reports and old versions of scripts (printed out so he could read and review them physically). This was the point at which he thought: ‘Can't I do something with this?’
At one point, it dawned on him: much of the paper was printed on one side only. So the back was still blank! That same week, he went to the print shop to have the first version of the Green Side notebook made.

The story of Green Side began with the realisation that the full potential of that paper had not yet been exploited. At Green Side, they are always looking to realise the full potential of both people and materials. This has an impact in the form of various products, but also on various social workshops. They operate according to three central principles: sustainable, social and local.

Pineut - Marlies van Iterson

Pineut - Marlies van Iterson is a creative entrepreneur with a passion for sustainable food concepts. Founder of Pineut!
Pineut is an impact brand where flavours and opportunities come together. What once started as a hobby project has grown into a mature brand in ten years' time. A brand that brings people together by creating flavours. To build a better world together. A world in which all “flavours” of people matter and can and are allowed to contribute. The more moments of happiness they create for you at the table, the more opportunities arise for others. This way, everyone can join in and together we can make something beautiful!

With their do-it-yourself products, they hope to spark a love for beautiful ingredients and surprising combinations and inspire you to make more delicious things yourself. At Pineut, they know one thing for sure: a little love and attention always leaves you wanting more.

Cycle-up Pottle - Jeroen Dijkstra

Cycle-Up - Jeroen Dijkstra is co-founder of Leeuwarden-based company Cycle-Up. He explains: "I want to give products a second life by giving them love and attention. And not just throwing them away. At Pottle, we come up with a new application and tell a unique story. Did you know, for example, that there are currently 1 million used preserving jars “wandering around” in the Netherlands, with no chance of a second life? That's such a shame. So you come up with a sustainable solution. A used preserving jar becomes a “Basil grow kit”. Companies can pass on this “new product” with a story. That's where my strength lies: coming up with new concepts that are also commercially viable.
Cycle-Up is based in the new Cycle-Up HUB in Leeuwarden, which he started this year. It is also home to all kinds of sustainable and circular initiatives and enterprises. This is where the circular economy is really put into practice.
